External Academic Internships

External Academic Internships (both curricular or extracurricular) constitute a formative activity carried out by ELISAVA UVIC-UCC students in institutions, companies, or other entities, including the university, whether they are public or private and during their university formation in conformity with the Spanish Royal Decree 592/2014, dated July 11, through which external academic internships of undergraduate students are regulated.

There are two types of internships:

a) Curricular internships: they are subjects from the syllabus and can be compulsory or optional.

b) Extracurricular internships: they are voluntary internships that are taken during the formative period and, despite having the same purpose as curricular internships, they are not a part of the corresponding syllabus.

  • Extracurricular internships must have a minimum stay in the collaborating entity of 65 hours, including the hours allocated to the report.
  • Compliance with the extracurricular internships does not imply the recognition of ECTS credits in the syllabus. However, they will be recorded in the European Diploma Supplement (ECTS).
Likewise, the maximum length of internships in an institution (adding together all periods of curricular and extracurricular placements carried out) may not generally exceed 900 hours per academic year, including in this calculation the writing of the report.

Prior to the start of the internship, it is essential that all parties involved have signed the collaboration agreement between the placement entity and the University, as well as the corresponding annex to this agreement that regulates the placement of the specific student.

The Spanish Royal Decree Law 2/2023, of March 16, on urgent measures for the extension of pensioners' rights, the reduction of the gender gap and the establishment of a new framework for the sustainability of the public pension system includes an additional provision, the fifty-second, which requires the inclusion of all external academic internships in the Social Security system.
